Larry Schwartz has been a partner in CPA and Business Advisory firms since 1984, most recently as Partner-In-Charge of the Northern Virginia (Washington, DC) office of PBGH, LLP, a 100 person regional firm.  As a tax and consulting partner for PBGH, he focuses on business valuation, litigation support, mergers and acquisitions, not-for-profit organizations, strategic planning, corporate governance, income tax and financial planning and non-attest accounting support for small publicly traded companies; he has worked with non-public enterprises including professional service firms, telecom ventures, technology and other  start-ups, retailers, wholesalers, fast-food franchises, homebuilders and developers, trade-related industries, trade organizations, and social services providers.

Mr. Schwartz has been instrumental in the founding, operation, and governance of several diverse and successful businesses, including his CPA firm affiliations and two community banks.  During 1988-1990, Mr. Schwartz co-founded BankAnnapolis, today a $400 million publicly traded community bank (ANNB).  One of the nation’s few two-bank directors, Mr. Schwartz is a founding director of First Virginia Community Bank, which opened in December, 2007 capitalized at $23 million.  Mr. Schwartz has been active in real estate development and management, and spearheaded a unique commercial venture to photograph the 1993 Presidential Inaugural. During 1993-1995, Mr. Schwartz orchestrated a successful interim turnaround management engagement.

Mr. Schwartz has served on the boards of directors of for-profit enterprises, and on the boards of several not-for-profit, educational, community, and religious organizations.  He is a member of the Executive and Strategic Planning Committees and is a member and past chair of the Independent Audit Committee of the board of directors of Annapolis Bancorporation and BankAnnapolis.  He is a director and member of the Loan and Audit Committees of First Virginia Community Bank.

Mr. Schwartz serves as an Adjunct Professor of Accountancy in the School of Business at The George Washington University.  He served three semesters as a member of the Supporting Faculty at George Mason University.  He has taught auditing, accounting fundamentals and financial statement analysis at the undergraduate and graduate levels and has taught cost accounting concepts to community bankers in Thailand.  He is a Past President of the GWU Executive MBA Alumni Association, a member of The George Washington University Undergraduate Programs Advisory Council and the 2007-2008 Curriculum Revision Committee.  He is a Past President of Northern Virginia Hebrew Congregation, and has served as a director and member of the Finance and Strategic Planning Committees of Reston Interfaith, Inc.  Mr. Schwartz is a frequent public speaker. He is a Washington SmartCEO Magazine ‘SmartCPA”. Virginia Business Magazine named Mr. Schwartz a “Super CPA” in 2008.

Mr. Schwartz is a Certified Public Accountant, a Certified Valuation Analyst and a Registered Investment Advisor.   He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the Maryland and Virginia State CPA Societies, and of the National Association of Certified Valuation Analysts.  He earned his Bachelors of Science in Business Administration with an accounting major from the University of Florida in 1976 and his Masters in Business Administration from The George Washington University in 1995.
