Mr. Mark O’Connell is the President and CEO of Interac Association and Acxsys Corporation.
As President and CEO he oversees Canada’s leading payment brand, INTERAC, and the operation of Canada’s national shared electronic financial services network. He is responsible for a suite of trusted payment products for consumers and merchants, including those offered through the shared network, which allows Canadians to access their money through Automated Banking Machines and point-of-sale terminals across Canada. The portfolio also features Cross Border Debit, for point-of-sale access at more than 1.5 million U.S. retailers, and online products INTERAC Online and INTERAC Email Money Transfer. He is also responsible for leading the development of new and enhanced payment products and fraud prevention solutions, including the introduction of chip technology to the Canadian marketplace. The organization is recognized as a world leader in debit card products and services.
Mr. O’Connell has extensive experience in the payment card and banking technology industries.
Most recently he was Executive Vice President, Finance Market at Emergis Inc., and for the past two years, he was Emergis Inc.’s appointee to the Interac Association Board of Directors. He has held other senior positions at NCR Corporation and IBM. A graduate of McGill University and the University of Windsor’s MBA program, Mr. O’Connell has also studied finance at the Harvard Business School.
