Keith D. Curry

Keith D. Curry was appointed and subsequently elected to the City Council in 2006 representing District 7. Mr. Curry was reelected and appointed Mayor Pro Tem in 2008.

As a member of the council, Mr. Curry authored a charter amendment to prohibit the abuse of eminent domain and led the efforts to create the city memorial to the Marines of the First Battalion, First Marine Division ("1/1"), in Castaways Park. As Chairman of the Finance Committee, Mr. Curry led efforts to undertake the Citizen Satisfaction Survey and a major performance measurement and benchmarking initiative. As a member of the Facilities Financing Committee, he helped develop a 15-year plan to address all of the city's park, library, police, fire, and community facilities needs without new taxes.

Mr. Curry led the efforts to construct the Newport Coast Community Center and is active in supporting the renovation of the OASIS Senior Center to a new state-of-the-art facility designed to serve future generations of seniors. He is an advocate for increased open space and park preservation and a member of the Media and Communications and Economic Development committees.

Professionally, Mr. Curry is a managing director of Public Financial Management (PFM) and for more than 20 years has been a national recognized financial advisor to state and local governments. From 2004-2006 he served as the President of the National Association of Independent Public Finance Advisors.

Prior to joining PFM, Mr. Curry served for five years in the administration of President Ronald Reagan. In the administration, Mr. Curry served in Washington as a Special Assistant to the Administrator of the Urban Mass Transportations Administration (now known as the Federal Transit Administration). He also directed the administration's private sector initiatives efforts for mass transit in the western states.

Mr. Curry attended California State University, Long Beach where he received a Master's degree in Public Administration, BA in Political Science and certificate in Urban Studies. In addition, he has completed the "Driving Government Performance" program at the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University. He is active in the Newport Beach Chamber of Commerce and Mariners Church.
