Mr. Bird represents primarily investment banks, commercial banks, insurance companies and other financial institutions in tax-exempt capital markets transactions. A significant portion of Mr. Bird's practice involves representing banks and other financial institutions that provide interest rate swaps and other derivative and financial products, letters of credit, liquidity facilities and other credit and liquidity enhancement arrangements in both the primary and secondary markets. In addition, Mr. Bird has extensive experience in the natural gas market, representing financial institutions and other entities in transactions relating to the acquisition of gas supplies for publicly owned natural gas and electric utilities, as well as the acquisition and construction of gas transmission, distribution, and storage facilities. Mr. Bird’s experience includes negotiating and structuring long-term gas supply acquisition and security arrangements, delivery and transportation arrangements and commodity price hedge arrangements in these transactions. Mr. Bird received his J.D. from the University of California at Davis in 1991 and his B.S. in finance from Clarkson University in 1986. He is a member of the National Association of Bond Lawyers (NABL) and has spoken frequently at NABL sponsored events regarding the Federal income tax treatment of derivative products in connection with tax exempt financing transactions. He is admitted to practice in New York, Georgia and the District of Columbia.
