The Bond Buyer's 3rd Annual
Financing Military Housing
Privatization Conference
The Military Housing Privatization Initiative (MHPI) achievements continue to surpass expectations. In FY 2001, the Administration and Department of Defense (DoD) set a goal to fund the elimination of 180,000 inadequate family housing units. That goal will be met in CONUS by FY2007 and overseas by FY2009.
- DoD has awarded over 87 MHPI projects, privatizing 173,000 units. DoD has invested over $2 billion in the MHPI. The private sector has invested $24 billion, a 12 to 1 funding ratio.
- MHPI has provided over 13,000 new deficit units to address the need for additional military housing.
- The FY 2009 request supports ongoing MHPI projects ($230 million) and “Grow the Force” privatization ($459 million).
- DoD plans to fund the privatization of a total of 193,561 family housing units by the end of FY2009.
As the Pentagon and its private-sector partners strive to find ways to apply the lessons of its initial programs to improve the quality and utilization of a wide range of other military infrastructure and property, you need to know:
- What new opportunities does the program’s continuing evolution offer?
- How can developers, investment bankers, investors and communities take advantage of these opportunities?
- How are these deals being conducted in today’s market?
