American Banker

David Longobardi is editor in chief of the daily newspaper American Banker, the industry’s leading information resource and SourceMedia’s flagship publication, and of AmericanBanker.com. These resources deliver news, analysis, commentary, data, research, events, and tools to financial services professionals.

Mr. Longobardi has overseen the creation of many new products and services under the American Banker brand, including the annual Best in Banking/Banker of the Year Awards and the FinTech 100, an industry-standard ranking of vendors to financial services companies. Most recently, Mr. Longobardi led the redesign and relaunch of AmericanBanker.com, a comprehensive resource incorporating all of SourceMedia’s banking brands.

During his tenure, American Banker was recognized by American Business Media with a Jesse H. Neal National Business Journalism Award for its outstanding regulatory coverage, and was honored for design by the American Society of Business Publication Editors.

Prior to joining American Banker in 1999, Mr. Longobardi was editorial director and publisher of Securities Industry News. Before that, he was editorial director at Waters Information Services (now a unit of Incisive Media PLC), where, among other things, he edited Waters magazine and managed newsgathering for several financial technology and market data newsletters.

Mr. Longobardi speaks and writes frequently on financial services issues and trends, under the auspices of American Banker and in other forums. He has a bachelors degree from Harvard College and a masters in journalism and mass communications from New York University, where he was awarded the Martha Zeissler Fellowship.
