Sheryl Smolkin, LLB., LLM.
From May 1987 to February 2004, Sheryl Smolkin was Director of Watson Wyatt Worldwide's Canadian Research & Information Centre, specializing in pension and benefits law. Upon taking early retirement from Watson Wyatt, she was appointed Editor in Chief of Employee Benefit News Canada effective March 1, 2005. EBNC publishes six print issues plus "EBNC inBrief," an electronic newsletter, which appears every week.
Ms. Smolkin received her LL.B. from Osgoode Hall of York University, in 1973 and was called to the Bar of Ontario in 1975. In 1998 she was granted an LL.M with distinction in Employment Law of the European Community from University of Leicester (U.K.).
Ms.Smolkin served on the Pension Commission of Ontario's Legal Advisory Committee, the Gender Equality Subcommittee of the Pension and Benefits Section of the CBAO-Ontario and she is the past president and current member of the section executive. She has also been chair of the Ontario Council of Canadian Pension and Benefits Institute, editor of the quarterly newsletter published by the International Pension and Employee Benefits Lawyers’ Association (IPEBLA) and the Canada Country editor for the same publication.
In addition, Ms. Smolkin has been an editorial advisor to Employee Benefits News Canada, a frequent speaker at conferences and author of numerous pension and benefits-related articles.
