Karen joined the firm on February 1, 2006 as a partner in the Employment & Labour Relations and Pensions & Employee Compensation Group. She has extensive experience advising clients on pension and benefit matters. Karen regularly advises clients on the legal and regulatory aspects of pension and benefits design, plan governance fiduciary responsibilities, plan administration and compliance, multi-employer plan issues, surplus entitlement and pension plan wind-ups.
Her practice also includes advising on pension matters concerning corporate reorganization, mergers and acquisitions, and regulatory applications and compliance. She has advocated on behalf of clients before administrative boards and tribunals.
Prior to her call to the bar, Karen’s career focused on strategic design communication and delivery of compensation, and pension and benefit programs. As a consultant, Karen analyzed the effectiveness of pension and benefit design and associated administration systems and procedures in relation to the cost benefits of service delivery options, drafted pension plan documents and plan pension administration specifications, and located, evaluated and recommended third party service providers where warranted.
Karen writes extensively on a wide range of pension and benefit related topics.
