Wal-Mart Stores, Inc.
Jane Thompson joined Wal-Mart in 2002 to create and lead the Financial Services Group. In the last 5 years, the business has grown to become the largest business in America serving customers who are unbanked or underserved. Wal-Mart helps customers cash their checks, pay bills, and transfer money. One of the best measures of the growth of this business and the impact on customers is the $330 million they will save on financial services at Wal-Mart this year. In keeping with Wal-Mart’s mission, financial services helps customers “save money so they can live better.”
In June of this year, Wal-Mart announced the introduction of the Wal-Mart MoneyCard, a prepaid, reloadable VISA card, as well as the rollout of 1000 Wal-Mart MoneyCenters. These offerings provide added convenience, safety and savings to the current basic money services at Wal-Mart.
Prior to joining Wal-Mart, Jane spent eleven years at Sears, Roebuck and Co. At Sears, she led numerous business groups, including the credit group, the home services group and the internet/catalog group. In all these positions she had the opportunity to refocus these businesses on customer’s need, resulting in fast-growing, profitable businesses. Jane’s career also included 10 years with the top management consulting firm, McKinsey & Co., Inc. She began her career at Procter & Gamble in brand management/marketing.
Jane has been active in numerous civic and not-for-profit organizations.
