Dr. Garber is the Medical Director for Informatics at Fallon Clinic. He has had decades of experience and success in Medical Informatics. Shortly after joining Fallon Clinic in 1986, he became Chairman of the Medical Records Committee, leading the clinic through an extensive redesign of the paper medical record system. Twenty years later, he successfully led the replacement of these paper records with Epic’s Electronic Health Record system for the clinic’s 1 million visits each year.

Dr. Garber is a member of the Massachusetts Medical Society’s Committee on Information Technology and Vice Chair of the Massachusetts eHealth Collaborative’s Executive Committee.

Dr. Garber has long been a proponent for patient safety, having served on Fallon Clinic’s risk management committee for many years, and more recently co-authoring articles in JAMA and JAMIA on Adverse Drug Events in the ambulatory setting. He continues to have an active Internal Medicine practice at Fallon Clinic. Dr. Garber currently is also Principal Investigator on the 5-year $1.5 Million AHRQ Implementation Grant known as SAFE Health – the Secure Architecture For Exchanging Health Information. This central Massachusetts Health Information Exchange is expected to go live in the Spring of 2009.
