She was a staff writer for the law page of The Wall Street Journal, where she wrote about legal trends and rulings, covered the Manhattan federal court and reported on the conspiracy trial of Sheik Omar Abdel Rahman, the convicted mastermind of the 1993 bombing of the World Trade Center. She also was a legal affairs reporter at The New York Daily News and The New York Law Journal as well as a general assignment and courts reporter for Newsday. Ms. McMorris, a former president of the Newswomen's Club of New York, is also an attorney admitted to practice in New York and New Jersey.

He is an expert on health care financing at older ages. His long-term care research includes studies of family care’s impact on nursing home admissions, decisions to purchase private long-term care insurance, and the effects of demographic change on the future demand for paid care services. He has testified before Congress about the family costs of elder care and about gaps in health insurance coverage among older adults who have not yet qualified for Medicare.
