Brent Burns
President and Founding Partner
Asset Dedication, LLC.
Brent Burns is President and Founding Partner of Asset Dedication, LLC. Brent brings more than a decade of financial and investment expertise to his work in applying academic research to the development of practical and innovative portfolio strategies. Brent’s deep background in empirical finance helped form the basis for all of Asset Dedication’s modeling and analysis. His work with Asset Dedication began at the University of San Francisco, where he partnered with co-Founder Stephen Huxley as a McLaren Research Fellow to study portfolio performance and the impact of withdrawal rates, inflation, and market conditions.
Brent was instrumental in developing and testing Asset Dedication’s earliest models, building the firm’s initial financial planning software, and implementing its first case-study portfolio. His expertise in road-testing academic theories for real-world application led to Asset Dedication’s distinct “asset location” strategies, including the development of its three sub-accounts: The Cash Portfolio, Income Portfolio and Growth Portfolio.
Previously, Brent was an investment advisor for Morgan Stanley in Orinda, Calif., targeting small business owners seeking fixed-income strategies. Prior to that, Brent ran an independent consulting business for small firms and managed the Family Office for his own family. He is the co-author with Stephen Huxley of Asset Dedication: How to Grow Wealthy with the Next Generation of Asset Allocation (McGraw-Hill, 2004). Brent holds an MBA from the University of San Francisco, and is also a former world-class track and field athlete. He was a member of the U.S. States National Track and Field Team in 1994 and three-time finalist at the U.S. Olympic Trials.
