James Appleby joined Provident Financial in Q3 2008 with responsibility for all Collection and Recovery Operations for the Credit Card function. Provident Financial, with two million customers has the largest non-standard customer base in the UK, doing business since 1880, Vanquis Bank being the Credit Card arm of Provident.
13 Years in Financial and Consumer Lending Roles
Mr. Appleby has gained a broad range of experience through 13 years in the finance and consumer lending field with positions at Barclays Bank and Provident Financial. Prior to joining Provident Appleby worked in California where he set up, end to end, a new Credit Card business for College Loan Corp, one of the largest College lenders in the US. While at Barclays Appleby worked on a broad range of programmes and was accountable at different times for Existing Customer Marketing (£7bn portfolio), Sales and Service Operation (1 million calls per month) and the leadership of several stand alone P&L’s including the delivery and on-going management of the first off balance sheet Joint Venture entered into at the Bank. Appleby has worked all over the work on Credit Card programmes including the delivery of acquiring infrastructure in sub-Saharan Africa, outsourced operations in India and South Africa and Card launches across Western Europe and America.
