Stephen Linaweaver combines extensive experience in strategy consulting, business management, environmental advocacy, and outdoor education with a continued passion for the natural world. He is currently a Senior Associate at GreenOrder, advising clients on sustainability strategy and implementation.
As an engagement manager at McKinsey & Company, Stephen advised clients on innovation, emerging market strategies, and energy and operational efficiency, working for major health care, industrial, and public sector clients on four continents. Prior to joining McKinsey in 2003, Stephen was a product manager for a Silicon Valley start-up and managed small and medium-sized enterprises in East Africa and Asia. He has worked as a campaigner for the International Rivers Network, an educator for the Aspen Center for Environmental Studies and Save the Bay (Oakland, California), and for five years as a professional whitewater rafting guide in North America, Asia, and Africa.
Stephen was previously an Associate in Research for the Children's Environmental Health Initiative at Duke University's Nicholas School of the Environment. He received an MSc with Distinction in Environment and Development from the London School of Economics, and was an Echols Scholar at the University of Virginia, where he received a BA with a focus on environmental science, policy, and management. His work has appeared in the International Journal of Sustainable Development among other publications.
