Bank of America

Robert Power is Senior Vice President with the Bank of America Public Policy group. He is the Issue Manager for State Consumer Real Estate issues, focusing on emerging state legislative issues affecting mortgage lending and servicing operations.  Prior to that, he was Executive Vice President, Public Affairs, with Countrywide Financial Corp. where he was responsible for managing the company’s state and local government affairs activities for all states.  Robert is also the immediate past chair of the Mortgage Bankers Association State Legislative and Regulatory Committee.  

Robert has over twenty years’ experience in the corporate government affairs and public policy areas representing the financial services industry.  Throughout his career, he has focused on current and emerging legislative trends affecting is clients.  His background and experience includes analyzing proposed legislation, developing and executing advocacy strategies that align with business goals, coalition building, drafting proposed legislation, amendments, and comments to regulations, preparing analyses, position papers, executive summaries and reports, and testifying before legislative and regulatory bodies. 

Prior to joining Bank of America, he worked for a number of different national and regional lenders where he managed federal and state legislative and regulatory issues across the United States.  He spent three years in private practice in Austin, Texas representing clients on state legislative and regulatory matters in the areas of financial services, insurance, and education.  His firm also managed and provided lobbying services for two state trade associations.  Prior to law school he worked as a mortgage loan officer and spent two-and-a-half years on the staff of former US Congressman Martin Frost from Texas.

Robert is a native of Irving, Texas.  He received his JD from Southern Methodist University School of Law and a BA in political science from Stephen F. Austin State University.  He works at the Bank of America corporate campus in Plano and lives in Frisco, Texas.
