Mark Pearce is Deputy Commissioner of Banks for the State of North Carolina and oversees the regulation of mortgage lending, consumer finance lending, other non-bank lenders. Pearce is Vice President of the American Association of Residential Mortgage Regulators and chairs the Conference of State Bank Supervisors’ Subcommittee on Mortgage Policy. Pearce is a participant in the State Foreclosure Prevention Working Group, a group of state Attorneys General and banking regulators working with major subprime servicers to prevent unnecessary foreclosures. Prior to joining the Office of the Commissioner of Banks, Pearce was president of the Center for Responsible Lending, a national non-profit policy and research center dedicated to protecting homeownership and family wealth from abusive practices. Pearce also worked for Self-Help, the largest community development financial institution (CDFI) in the nation, on affordable housing and commercial real estate finance and development. Pearce graduated with honors from Harvard Law School (1996) and has a B.A. from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
