Mortgage continues to be a core product that banks and credit unions must offer to significantly deepen customer relationships and increase cross-selling opportunities. However, the current mortgage environment continues to be a challenging one. Senior leaders are facing critical decisions regarding the best way to effectively utilize their branch sales team for mortgage cross sell. Questions abound—do I expand my loan officer sales force? Invest in new technology? Do consumers really apply on line and or over the phone? A bank may also face the challenge of retaining the customer when its treasury group sells the loan to national competitors.
