Owen G. Fiore, JD, practiced tax and estate planning law on a national scale, based in California, for over 40 years, and in addition held a California CPA certificate. Owen was an active tax litigator, primarily in gift and estate tax controversies, including representing clients at audit, Appeals and Tax Court levels. He has been the principal advisor for many families having substantial wealth, developing strategies using entities such as trusts, FLPs, LLCs and corporations in Family Wealth Planning. The overall goal has been to maximize Wealth Preservation and Management Succession. Today, Owen’s non-lawyer consulting efforts, through FioreWealthPlanningConsulting, continue his emphasis on practical, effective Family Wealth Planning as a team member with clients and their other advisors.
Mr. Fiore has been a faculty member and author for numerous national and regional level tax institutes and conferences, including the NYU Institute on Federal Taxation, the USC Institute on Federal Taxation, the Heckerling(U. Miami) Institute on Estate Planning, the Southern California Tax & Estate Planning Forum, the Tulane Tax Institute, the Oregon Tax Institute, the Notre Dame Tax & Estate Planning Institute. In addition, he has been the author/instructor of tax and estate planning courses for the CA Society of CPAs Education Foundation, SourceMedia, the California State Bar, AICPA, WesternCPE, CPELink and both CLU and financial planning organizations. Owen regularly provides commentary in the form of articles to the LISI(LeimbergInfromationServices, Inc.) email newsletters and for publications of Business Valuation Services. In addition, his own website, www.owenfiore.com, includes periodic newsletters on estate planning subjects and new developments.
Owen’s Tax Court litigation experience included several published Tax Court opinions, including Estate of Maria Cristofani(1991), Estate of Dorothy Schauerhamer(1997)(the first of the past 12 years of litigation over FLPs), and Estate of Aldo Fontana(2002). Using this experience in forward planning has been very helpful to Owen’s clients.
