Sharon Oberlander is Senior Vice President and Wealth Management Advisor of The Oberlander Group with Merrill Lynch in Chicago. She and her team manage nearly $700 million in assets for high-net-worth individuals and corporations in their financial advisory practice. Her areas of expertise include: retirement planning; asset management; asset protection; and wealth transfer.
A graduate of the University of Manitoba in Winnipeg, Canada, Sharon relocated to Chicago in 1971 to begin her 30-year career in financial services, which includes 29 years with Merrill Lynch.
At Merrill Lynch, Sharon serves as a mentor to new employees and other advisors, many of whom are women. As a mentor, Sharon offers her invaluable counsel on all aspects of client service and financial advising, and helps other advisors define and achieve their personal career goals. The firm also recognizes her as a member of their Director’s Circle and she has served as a member of the firm’s advisory council to management.
Sharon has been awarded several prestigious distinctions for her outstanding work as a financial advisor, including being named to Chicago Magazine’s “Top Financial Advisers” list; Barron’s “Top 100 Women Advisers” list in 2004, 2005, 2006 and 2007; Registered Rep’s “America’s Top 100 Advisors” list in 2006; Research magazine’s “Winner’s Circle” list of the top-ranked financial advisors in America in 2003; and Worth magazine’s “Top 250 Financial Advisors” list for three consecutive years.
In addition to these honors, Sharon has appeared on numerous radio and television shows and has been quoted in several newspaper articles for her expertise, discussing the latest trends and topics in personal finance.
Sharon also plays an active role in the community and serves as a board member of the Gastro Intestinal Research Foundation (GIRF), an organization that raises funds for medical research at University of Chicago. Through the Chicago Executives’ Club, she serves as a mentor and a sponsor for the Women’s Leadership Series. She also actively supports many arts organizations in Chicago and is involved in several professional women’s organizations.
