As co-founder of Smallwood Maike, Cindy Maike brings clients a wealth of insurance and financial services experience, grounded in the business but reaching deeply into the technology. Prior to Smallwood Maike, in a variety of leadership positions at IBM and ACORD, she honed her skills in business architecture, development/standards, global software marketing, business strategy, management consulting, business architecture, and IT strategy. She has also been and continues to be an advocate and active participant in the development of insurance industry business architecture, process modeling, and information standards.
Prior to Smallwood Maike, Cindy served as Director of Standards Planning at ACORD, the standards body for the global insurance industry. Charged with supporting and coordinating strategic standards initiatives across the Life & Annuity, Property & Casualty/Surety, and Reinsurance/Large Commercial domains, she led the strategy and design of the ACORD Standards Framework, the SOA reference model for the insurance industry.
Cindy built much of her career at IBM. In the IBM Software Group, she served as Global Market Segment Manager and Chief Standards Officer for Insurance, and was critically involved in the development of IBM's SOA solutions for the insurance industry
In the IBM Business Consulting Services organization, Cindy focused on business strategy development, business transformation, organizational change management, IT strategy, and financial management solutions. As a Principal, Practice Leader, and Project Executive, she drove numerous large-scale business transformation initiatives for major financial services clients, including property & casualty and life insurance carriers, banking, and mutual funds. She also provided practice thought leadership for the mid-market financial market and insurance industry segments.
Prior to IBM, Cindy held a variety of finance and strategic planning positions.
Cindy is a frequent speaker at insurance industry events, and the author of numerous articles related to standards and SOA in the insurance industry. Cindy received her BS in Business Administration & Accounting from Kansas State University. She is also a CPA.
