Shifting Risk: The Future of Health Care in America

Government and businesses are shifting risk of all kinds - job and income security, health care, and retirement - onto the shoulders of individuals and families. This economic transformation has extremely serious implications for individuals, the companies that employ them, and society as a whole. Jacob Hacker, the author of such books as "The Great Risk Shift," "The Divided Welfare State," and "The Road to Nowhere: The Genesis of President Clinton's Plan for Health Security," will offer his view of where health care and other social protections are headed. It's a key message for HR and benefit professionals, especially as we look forward to the 2008 election and subsequent regulatory changes that could affect benefits such as employee-sponsored health and retirement coverage.

Keynote: Healthy Employees, Healthy Bottom Line

Promote healthy lifestyles among your employees and you'll reap a return on your human capital investment. But first you need to understand what's driving your company's health care costs. The answers may surprise you. In this session, you will learn how to assess the true cost of poor health at your organization, not only in terms of health plan dollars but also in terms of lost productivity. Learn how Procter & Gamble put this knowledge to use to redesign its benefit plan in some non-standard ways, including lowering co-payments for some disease-specific prescription drugs. The overall approach is called "value-based benefits," and it has helped companies like P&G optimize their health care programs for their employees and shareholders. Find out how it can work for you.
